The Basics of Building Mass
Muscle Mass is built by doing the basic movements using barbells and dumbbells. Just look at the Arnold Era or the Golden Age of Bodybuilding, the machines of today were nonexistent then, yet massive symmetrical physiques were built using rudimental homemade machines, barbells and dumbbells. Yes, machines do play an important part in today’s bodybuilding world but first build your foundation using the techniques of the past then graduate to the machines. Adding them to your training routine but never abandoning the basic barbell and dumbbell movements. It’s funny, I hear the younger generation of bodybuilders talking in the gym about a new facility that opened and all the new high-tech machines they have immediately joining that new gym because they believe in their minds that all those machines are going to build big muscles. How foolish their mind set is? They are doomed before they even get started. Yes, they can build an impressive physique with the new technology equipment, but they will never develop the necessary mass needed to be a viable competitor on stage.
To build the basic mass necessary to fill out and complete your physique, I recommend doing 3 basic exercises for each body part and do 2 to 3 drop sets per exercise, training each body part 1x a week. More isn’t better in this case, less is actually more. Refer to my Drop Sets video in my video gallery or read the Drop Sets Article in this blog for a full in-depth explanation of this.
